Anticipation
I'm on the "standby" list for the data center job.
The recruiters I was talking with are giving me the runaround.
Got the Crown Vic to pass emissions by some miracle, now it's just a couple of minor tuneups to get it to pass safety. There's a small tailpipe leak and something on the power steering pump needs to be tightened. The insurance is already in my name though! Speaking of which, the insurance is really really cheap. $200 every six months. It was going to be about $50 higher, but when I told them I'd moved to Missouri they dropped the price. Apparently there is some truth to the old saw about Utah drivers being dangerous...
And oh - my driving record was confirmed as being entirely clean. Woo.
At church on Sunday our home teacher, who works at CitiBank, said that his buddy is the Head Unix Administrator there. Apparently they really need some people, and he really liked my resume. On Monday he emailed me a link to the position they want me to apply for. Seems they can't contact me officially until my application is in the HR computer system. I should hear back sometime this week about setting up the interview.
If I can just get some income flowing in...
With a Real Job, but without a mortgage or a car payment, I can put a lot into savings. And I can afford to get a nice (but still reasonably-priced) PC. I've decided to put getting a laptop on hold. There's too many things just around the corner I want to get in on in the laptop arena. And desktop systems are cheaper and more powerful.
With a PC in place, I can do hardcore development work, and play FFXI. And Half-Life 2. And Battlefield 2. And Planetside. And... well, I could keep going.
I'm still not a fan of the idea of moving back to a stationary PC. It feels restrictive somehow. *shrug* Certainly less restrictive than my current situation, which is being able to email and internet and general business stuff, but no gaming or coding.
Also. I got my limited-use recommend from the Bishop on Sunday. Good to have that squared away.
And oh - I've been able to fall asleep lately. I started a new med from a doc specialing in sleep disorders. It's called Rozerem, and it works on the pineal gland, which is the one regulating the circadian rhythm via the hormone Melatonin. It seems my day-night cycle is screwed up. Whodathunkit? Anyway, the new med is pretty awesome at letting me sleep. (Which is different from making me sleep.)
Now I just need to work on waking up....
